Tarore and her book

Tarore and her Book

This story is about a girl who changed people's lives and stopped war in Aotearoa and how she brought peace to the land.

When Ngakuku Tarore's father took her to a mission school  the owners of the school were Alfred and Charlotte Brown. They said that she was a wonderful student and they gave her the Gospel of Luke to read. She wore it in a kete around her neck.

Next Tarore's father took her class into the bush and when they went to Wairere Falls, a raiding party was going by and they saw them. Tarore's father saved the class but Tarore was asleep. Soon a Te Arawa Warrior killed Tarore and took the kete with the book inside. Later Tarore's father went to look for her but when he got to the house he saw her lying down, dead. He cried but he didn't go and kill the warrior because he remembered the words from the holy Gospel of Luke. Meanwhile in Rotorua, the warrior who killed Tarore had read the Gospel of Luke and read the message of peace. The warrior was so sad that he went to Ngakuku and asked for trust and to say sorry.

Next  the words of peace spread to the North Island. People stopped war and continued to live the Christian way of peace. Next the warrior chief Te Rauparaha heard the message of peace and so he built  a church called Rangiatea.

At a beautiful place called Waharoa you will see the grave of that twelve year old girl who changed people's lives.
