Oscar Romero

Oscar Romero was born on August 15th 1917 in Ciudad Barrios, El Salvador. He was man who fought for the poor and wanted them to have what we people have now. He was a very inspiring man who spoke against poverty, social injustice, torture and assassinations.

Oscar Romero helped others by giving them hope and saying that people should give them a fair chance. He had made the rich and the powerful people angry because when he talked on the radio he was speaking up for the poor. So the government blew up the radio station.

On the afternoon of March 24th 1980 Bishop Oscar Romero was blessing the Eucharist and Wine and BANG. He was on the floor and the nuns ran up to him and put the cross and him and had blessed him. Others stayed in their seats and cried and prayed. Oscar Romero became a martyr on the 3rd of February 2015.

Vatican II

Pre Vatican II
After Vatican II
All masses were  said in Latin
Mass said in local language
Priests often spoke quietly
Priests now speak with heart and soul
Catholics were forced to see the Jewish Community in opposition to catholicism
Now Catholics see the Jewish Community as another friend
Priest did not face the congregation
The Priest could face the congregation
Only men got to participate in the Catholic mass
Now women can participate in the mass by contributing to alter service, readings and eucharistic minister.
Hymns and music would have been all the same in different churches.
Churches get to chose their own hymns and music that are relevant to catholicism
